fabulous umbrella Mar 29, 2009

We have had some serious rain in Florida recently and I have been the envy of my friends with this umbrella. It is big, sturdy and fashionable. Is is almost too big, though, when it comes to maneuvering getting in doors if one does not have the luxury of an overhang in which to stay dry while shutting it before entering a building. (Maybe I just have not developed the coordination to carry things, open a door and pass through it with an open umbrella of these dimensions since I do not use it for golf.)
The rubber tip is a feature I never thought about, but it does not slide to the ground when you try to prop it up in a corner because of this little grip. The rubber grip on the handle also makes it easy to hang on to even when it is wet and especially in a high wind. I am still divided about a stick versus a crook handle, however, because it is handy to be able to carry a closed umbrella over one's wrist when it is not in use. This kind requires a free hand.
A feature I miss is the kind of telescopic cover on Singaporean umbrellas that keeps them from dripping all over everything once one gets inside.

Wind resistant and had pretty good coverage. Only drawback so far is the lack of strap (or a hook handle) to carry it hands-free.

I was looking for something to use in the city that could handle gusts of winds around the buildings. I've used it a few times and it works well. While at first, it feels pretty heavy, once it's open and overhead, the weight is not an issue. It handles gusts of wind just fine! I do wish it had somekindof carry-strap - nothing large or bulky, just a strap to throw over my shoulder for when it's not raining....I've yet to find something like that though....

Good size and works well, but the threads holding the two canopies together is very weak. I spent a lot of time redoing the sewing with a heavy duty thread.
