Easier and Harder Feb 14, 2010

The Perfect Push Up-Basic makes it easier and safer to do a push-up concerning your wrists. It can also make it more challenging by deepening the push-up.
Keep in mind that if you don't want to go deeper, you don't have to. For those just starting out, the Perfect Push Up-Basic can either be a tool 1) to ease or eliminate any wrist problem you have and/or prevent it while also functioning as an apparatus to allow you to focus all your efforts into the push-up, and/or 2) if desired, to make a safer and deeper push-up.
This Perfect Push Up-Basic comes with the handles not attached. They easily snap into place and are extremely well-made. The grips are amazingly tacky and the rotating disks are natural, effortless, and noiseless. The tacky grips are needed for when you are sweating and doing push-ups, the sweat will glide down your arms and onto or around your hands. The grips eliminate any chance of you slipping. Totally impressed with this item. You can also use these when doing girl push-ups (of which I'm doing some at this statge).

Gets the job done whether you're a nerd or a jock! Oct 06, 2010
By Baron Von Cool I've been using the Perfect Pushup Basic faithfully for about two weeks now, following the included workout plan, and these bad boys definitely do work as advertised. I'm getting good results, results I can already see in my chest and biceps (of course, by week two, I'd added in a bunch of exercises with dumbbells, too). The clever design of the Perfect Pushup takes the strain of doing pushups off your wrists and provides a more thorough muscle workout than doing them without it. Plus, it's fun to have a neat little gadget like this.
The set comes with a double-sided fold-out mini-poster that explains the exercises and how to customize your own 21-day workout plan. You test how many pushups you can do, then compare your results to the chart, and follow the instructions. After 21-days, you retest and adjust your workout accordingly. It's a nice poster with good info but doesn't go into too much detail due to the limited space. To address that, the company website has free videos that walk you through each of the exercises and I recommend watching them first to make sure you are doing the exercises correctly. For those of us who haven't done a push-up since high school gym class, an easier, knee-modification version is given for all the exercises. This helps tremendously to get you going if you're out of shape and feeling discouraged by how few pushups you can do in the regular position. After awhile, you should be able to abandon the knee-modification version. And for when you finally become a pushup master, tougher chair modification versions are included, making this gear a good choice for more advanced users, too.
I was a little dubious about having to snap in the handles myself but they went in easily and can't come back out. They seem sturdy and stable enough but do feel a bit on the cheap side, which is my only real criticism of the Basic model. Sometimes one of the handles makes a clicking, ratcheting type sound when I twist it during my workouts but this does not seem to impede its range of motion in any way. I've checked and the handle is securely in place. It's a little annoying but doesn't happen too often.
If I had known how much I was going to use and enjoy this equipment, I would have upgraded to the better constructed and cooler-looking Perfect Pushup Perfect Pushup V2 1 ea but my muscles can't tell the difference between cheap or fancy. The Basic model gets the job done just fine. There's also a Perfect Pushup Mobile Unit to take your workout on the road. My buddy has the new Perfect Multi-Gym by this company and I've tested it out; it's a good product for when you have the upper body strength to add pull-ups to your routine.
If you're new to getting working out and want to avoid the gym like me, I also recommend getting a pair of 10, 12 or 15 lb. dumbbells, whichever weight is right for you, and maybe a pair of workout gloves. You'll need to invest in higher weight dumbbells later on as your strength increases but you can get a good Cap Barbell Solid Hex Single Dumbbell for about a buck a pound at most stores. Be very careful if investing in a set of adjustable weight dumbbells; most are cheaply constructed and downright dangerous if they fall apart while you are lifting them! From my research, the absolute best are the Ironmaster 75 lb Quick Lock Adjustable Dumbbell System which are rock solid metal (no cheap plastic parts like the competition has). They should last a lifetime (and they better, at that price!). However, I would just go with a cheap set of cap iron dumbbells at first to save money and make sure you will stick with your exercise routine. You can always upgrade to a deluxe adjustable set later. Remember, your muscles can't tell the difference between cheap and fancy. I'd also invest in a quality dumbbell workout book; most of these you can pick up used for as little as a penny (plus shipping).

Great Pushup workout! Jun 09, 2010

You can't cheat pushups with these! I used to do pushups with my elbows supported against my body. These devices make you do a "perfect" pushup! It is very nice that the handles turn when you do your pushups, less bio-mechanical stress for your wrists and elbows! I love it!

Very good, but tough workout Apr 14, 2010

Get ready for a reality check. If you think you are in good condition Perfect Pushup might burst your bubble. I had no illusions but I was depressed when 40 + conventional push ups (admittedly with questionable form) became less than 10.
I added 1/2 inch plus to each arm after I started using Perfect Push up regularly and I have moved my count back up, but it was and is slow because I am doing deeper pushups and going for quality rather than quantity. It is worth the money and it is the best exercise equipment I have bought in some time and my personal gym contains some relatively expensive equipment that I now rarely use.

Great product Dec 22, 2009

While this product seemed like a gimmick, I purchased it so I can use it when I am away traveling - which is often. Besides allowing a deeper stretch, it alleviates the tension on your risks as they are not in an unnatural position while doing pushups. I usually do a couple of hundred pushups (not all together - maybe 4 sets of 50), and previously, my wrists would tighten up. I think this is worth the price.
