Nile Kinnink book review Feb 04, 2010
By Vicki Mccarville
"Mick and Vicki McCarville"
You don't have to be an Iowa Hawkeye fan to enjoy Nile. The book is the story about Nile Kinnick who won the Heisman Trophy in 1939. It is written in novel form which helps bring the story to life. The book is more than a story about a great football player. It is a story about integrity, hard work, inspiration, determination and guts.
The story is also about an inspiring coach and a driven team that made the Heisman Trophy possible for Nile Kinnick, who later had the stadium named after him. Nile Kinnick was selfless and he knew he couldn't obtain greatness without spiritual as well as collegial help.
T. Lidd not only tells the story about this great athlete, he has provides a history lesson in to the time period. It is evident the author had a deep passion for Nile Kinnick, Iowa sports and ethics. T. Lidd obviously did his research before he put pen to paper.
Even if you don't know a great deal about football, the action will carry you along and keep you reading.
I highly recommend this inspirational read.
