Hard to Rate, Lots of Info Presented Unusually Oct 12, 2009
By observer22 This large book is difficult to rate because there is a lot of info presented in a rather unusual fashion. The book mainly concentrates on the Don Coryell Charger era of 1978-86. Most of this book is a very wide ranging collection of interviews that have not been edited, very raw reading in the sense that some interviews are obviously written exactly as told. There is a rather short history of the team which reveals a lot, such as the Oilers stealing the Chargers sideline signals in a 1979 playoff game.
Surprisingly little is devoted to Don Coryell and by far the most interesting interview was with backup tight end Bob Klein who noted then-Charger's owner Gene Klein having one of the league's lowest payrolls. Coryell had almost no voice in drafts and signings.
Lots and lots of photos however some are quite small.
Probably a bit too expensive except for serious fans of the Coryell/Dan Fouts Chargers. Do an internet search for DVDs of past games for whatever your favorite team is. Coryell's Chargers were very successful against the Terry Bradshaw/Jack Ham led Steelers.
