Bob Miller Class Act..Stories Good but not Exceptional Dec 01, 2006
By Hockeyman
"Hockey Phan"
Bob Miller has ALWAYS been a class act. His book is an easy read and I enjoyed it. I hoped for more but who else can expose much of the Kings History than Bob Miller? I learned more about the Kings Management that I previously knew. The boorish behavior of MOST Canadian born Managers, Coaches is MORE than I ever imagined but I can appreciate WHY things have been so screwed up all these years! Great talent, good coaches, poor management! Mr Cooke takes the cake! I can honestly say that Bob Miller has ALWAYS been Positive towards the Kings no matter how BAD they have been! I have a personally autographed copy as I got mine a full price at the Staples Center on November 27th. It was great meeting Bob Miller!!

An entertaining read. Nov 30, 2006
By kingzwingz This book is a fast and entertaining read. For those who are looking for something deep, this would not be a good choice. A good book to pick up and read in an afternoon. Lots of little story bits. A true Kings fan should enjoy reading any bits and pieces of Bob Miller's history- Mr. Miller is a King at heart and a class act announcer!
Good, easy, fun reading Dec 19, 2011
By WDX2BB My usual disclaimer: I know Bob Miller a little, and I've known Randy Schultz for about 35 years.
So what? You're going to like "Bob Miller's Tales from the Los Angeles Kings" under any circumstances.
Miller is the classy announcer who has been broadcasting Kings' games since the early 1970's. Los Angeles hasn't won any Stanley Cups during that time, but they sure haven't been boring. Miller concentrates on good, funny stories from his years with the Kings, and that's a wise decision.
It's tough to argue with the choice of tales of Jack Kent Cooke, a veteran owner of the Kings and a unique personality by any account. One reporter once tried to pitch a story on Cooke by saying he was one of only three men in a particular category. Cooke replies that he wasn't one of three men in any category. He had a point.
Cooke was the type of owner who would tell his announcers not to mention a particular player, because there was a chance that player might be traded. Or, he would yell at Miller for hogging the microphone, not knowing that the commentator's microphone was broken and that Miller was filling time.
You might remember Bruce McNall, who took over the Kings and had a nice ride until authorities caught up with his, um, accounting methods and sent him to jail. Then there's general manager George Maguire, who set some pretty low standards for crude and vulgar behavior by someone in the public eye. The Kings had some pretty good players, such as Wayne Gretzky and Marcel Dionne,
While the games and seasons fade, the funny stories remain. And there are several laugh-out-loud tales in this book. Like the time Pete Weber got on a commercial flight and said, "Boy I sure hope I don't get sick like I did on the last flight." To which, Miller, picking up on the gag quickly, said the guy sitting between them, "I'd switch seats with you, but the last flight he threw up all over my pants and shoes." The man in the middle seat was the one turning green turning takeoff.
This is a quick, easy read, full of fun. You don't have to be from the West Coast to enjoy it.
Great gift for Kings fan. Jan 11, 2011
By SRB My husband has been following this team forever, I purchased this for him as a Christmas gift. We were talking about Bob Miller one night and he mentioned this book. He has enjoyed it. It wasn't noticed until he opened the gift that it was actually signed by Bob. It was awesome. Guess he lucked out to get a book that was signed by him. I do not believe it was in the description.
Bob Miller's "SHORT STORIES" from the Los Angeles Kings May 17, 2009
By K. Zeiler If you consider yourself a Kings fan you must own this book. Yes it is short. Yes it is small. But it is also a great collection of stories from the man behind the mic for the Kings. You will finish the book quickly but you will want more when you are done. It makes you wish Bob Miller will always be with the Kings or at least they win some championships with him before he retires, they owe it to him for all that he has meant to the organization.
