Lockout Relief Nov 17, 2004

Really, really enjoyed reading this book. From the foreword to the last page, the story of how the 1980 New York Islanders captured the Stanley Cup really comes alive. I felt the goosebumps of a 10 year old kid all over again as I read this book. My only regret: it's a bit short.

Back when hockey was played by real men. Aug 01, 2005

This book is a must read for all current and former Islander fans. So many great memories were rehashed while reading this book. The only problem I had with this book was that it had to end. By the way, not only should fans read this book, it should be required reading material for all current islanders' players. The book will bring you back to a better time and place when there were no ads on the boards, no half naked 16 year old girls skating between whistles, no instigation penalties, and most importantly, when the NY Rangers did not have the means to buy a Stanley Cup. Too bad hockey turned into the traveling circus as it is today.

Great Read Jan 10, 2009
By T. Green Growing up on Long Island..The whole community felt like we ALL won the Cups. This Book relives a simpler time for many. It brought back many memories from that era. Islander Fans will LOVE this book..Plain and simple. So from that standpoint. I HIGHLY recommend Book.
Re: At 7:11 of OT, I realized life is not always fair! Jan 24, 2011
By NAP At this time in my life, I was an obsessed Flyer fan. (Philadelphia had that streak from November until January where they did not loose a game!) I was in tears when Bob Nystrom scored that goal-How could he?! It was the 1st season the NHL adopted the expanded & ridiculous 16-team playoff format. In the Stanley Cup finals, the Islanders had a favorable call in the overtime period Game 1, at the Spectrum; in the Game 6 clicher, at the Coliseum they received 2 more, which all resulted in Islander goals. The officiating was the worst I've ever seen, especially at that stage!! However, they skated circles around Phila in the middle games in Long Island. Bill Torrey (the GM) made magnificent moves as you could see their superstars (Denis Potvin, Bryan Trottier, Mike Bossy) mixed with the original or older Islanders (Billy Smith, Clark Gillies, John Tonelli, Nystrom), their newest acquistions (Gord Lane, Kenny Morrow)& the trade that elevated their organiztion (Butch Goring) to enable them to become a dynasty. Alan's work & research on how the club originated to that season is excellent, the problem was it brought back a lot of trauma for me!

ISLANDERS RULE Dec 03, 2007
By COOL JEWEL THIS IS ABOUT THE START OF THE 4 STANLEY CUPS IN A ROW BY THE N Y ISLANDERS. THE AUTHOR ALAN HAHN, DESCRIBES HOW THE TEAM WAS ASSEMBLED PLAYER BY PLAYER AND THEN GIVES US A DETAILED SUMMARY OF HOW THE ISLANDERS CAPTURED THEIR FIRST CUP. I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK AND FOUND IT TO INTERESTING AND ENTERTAINING. CAN'T WAIT TO READ HIS OTHER BOOK, FISH STICKS. A MUST READ FOR ALL ISLANDER AND HOCKEY FANS.
